Dear Pilbara (What Are You Fighting For?)

from Pyrocumulus by Sky Eater

/

about

This song was written after Chelsea visited the Pilbara (Western Australia) region and saw how easily beautiful, important parts of our country can be turned into extremely ugly, destructive mines. It asks the question, "What Are You Fighting For?". Every little bit we can do to help, makes this world a better place.

lyrics

With her red heart
Splayed out
Above the sandy plains
A solid heart
Of Iron Ore
Here Remains

And the earth's core brought forth
So you can see the metal that she's made of
And the earth's core brought forth
So you can see the metal that she's made of

So tell me

What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?

Said they keep the wars running
'Cause its good for the economy
Dealing weapons to the desperate
Spreading fear and making money
Corruption in the media
Deception in the courts
Big business building barriers
With unnecessary force
They're calling in the army
They're calling the police
Justifying genocide in a war against peace
Paying off the barristers and killing the defence
Counting on our apathy and claiming self-defence
Industrialised consumption on a gluttonous scale
Unnatural mechanical dominance of a species doomed to fail
With evolution of technology
We can harness natural energy
With a shift in our perception
And a belief in our synergy
Cutting down the amazon
They're drilling to the core
Exhausting our resources with the force of corporate law
Protecting the illusion of an opulent dream
Abundance for the chosen few and the rest in poverty say

What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?

Man made
Thinking we know whats best and how things can change
With that heart ripped out
That heart melted down
And shipped around
Shipped around

And the earth's core brought forth
So you can see the metal that she's made of
And the earth's core brought forth
So you can see the metal that she's made of

So tell me

What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
So tell me
What are you fighting for?
